AHP-001 Duration Half day

Addis Ababa city tour

We start at 8.30 (or 1.30 PM) with a pick up from your hotel and drive north up to Mount Entoto.

As we drive up the hill, the breath of fresh and cool air, the site of the exuberant flora and the pungent aroma of the eucalyptus trees along each side of the road, make the trip very delightful. From the top, there is a panoramic view of the capital and surrounding countryside. Entoto is an important watershed, to the north water flows to the Blue Nile and to the south to the Awash River.

Within the old imperial compound on Entoto, we will visit the church of St. Mariam( MenelikII was crowned as Emperor of Ethiopia in 1889) and the church of Archangel Raguel. A further excitement is waiting in Entoto Museum. The museum contains articles of great quality and historical significance. The drum that announced the march to Adowa against the Italian invasion, the bed Menelik II used while in Ankober, ceremonial dresses of the king and the queen, Menelik’s crown and a Persian carpet are only few of the numerous exhibits depicting Entoto’s glorious past

Leaving the churches we descend to Addis Ababa, stopping off at the National Archaeological Museum. Here visitors can see exhibits ranging from the 3.5 million-year-old bones of Lucy, through the Axumite and Gondarene periods to the monarchs Tewodros and Menelik II.

This completes the half day city tour and visitors will be taken back to their hotels.
